no. 39 - 夜半歌声

vocals: 8/10 || acting: 7/10 || (music) score: 6/10 || stage presence: 6/10 || characters: 1/10 || plot: 1/10 || staging: 3/10 || audience: 7/10 || logistics: 8/10

The plot is reallyyyyy bad. It has a similar concept as Phantom of the Opera but honestly I just thought it was really dumb. Pretending to be dead because your face is burned seems really dumb to me, especially when he didn’t have any character growth throughout the whole musical, like bro spent the whole musical literally kidnapping people and terrorizing people for a very shallow backstory. The staging was also not great, and the choreography was actual shit. This made me realize that the Chinese musical theatre industry still had wayyyyys to go lmao. The second male lead also had no personality and no character traits outside of “I love the female lead” like girllll what. The female lead was also very bland and didn’t seem to have any personality besides being a damsel in distress. However, I was a really big fan of all the actors for the three main characters. Especially one of them, since I have been a fan of his since I was a Sophomore in high school. So vocals served, but not the rest lol!
