I watched Matilda in China with my mom. I read the book when I was very young and remember it being one of my favorites, but I really didn’t know what to expect from the musical theater version of the story I adored as a kid. However, the show blew me away. The staging was amazing, especially the song with the alphabets (I forgot what it was called, sorry!). It was very impressive for them to match the content of the song with the American alphabet, and I was honestly even more impressed that they managed to translate it to Chinese while still matching the alphabet. The vocals were also absolutely outstanding. Miss Honey had a solo towards the end of the musical and the actress gave me chillllls. I can’t believe people that talented exist lmao.
My only complaint was that there were a lot of people talking in the audience. This may just be an issue with the concert etiquette culture in China, as it’s honestly pretty common (unfortunately). The show was so good though that it only felt like a minor inconvenience.
