no. 8 - janelle monae
vocals: 10/10 || setlist: 9/10 || stage presence: 10/10 || audience: 11/10 || logistics: 6/10
Can’t believe I saw my queen live :’) The main issue about the set was how late everyone came on. The opener was around 45 minutes, and Janelle Monae herself was also around 45 minutes late. It was very tiring to wait and since I went alone, I was hella bored lmao. The performance itself was crazy awesome though. Just like how intentional they are with their song placement in their albums, the order of the set for the concert was also very intentional and it delivered the message she wanted to share really well. I loved that a lot of her music revolves around self-love and activism, so it was awesome to see that reflected in her show as well. The only song I would have wanted to hear was The Rush (which was my favorite off the album), but the setlist was still really strong otherwise. Also, the nothing was eatinggggg. There was this one guy next to me that was dancing their ass off to every song and I was like so true!
